Reference Publisher Helps Put Books Into The Hands of The World’s Most Disadvantaged Readers

Anonymous Patron writes “Some Good PR for OUP: Oxford University Press is partnering with BookAid International to ask Americans to donate their old dictionaries to charity.
Anyone who donates a good, usable English dictionary to BookAid will receive a $10 rebate towards their purchase of The New Oxford American Dictionary Second Edition ($60.00 hardcover, May 16, 2005). Their old dictionaries will then be sent to libraries in the third world, including sub- Saharan Africa and areas hardest hit by last December’s tsunami in Sri Lanka.”

    sounds like you can get multiple discounts
    Amazon already gives you a 37% discount ($22 off), so then it sounds like you could get another $10 off through the mail after you use their prepaid mailing label to send in an old dictionary.

    Library Journal said the first edition had “an atypical layout and a new approach to presenting definitions”

    Read the small print — dictionary has to be ©2000 or more recent, and weight less than five pounds. All the dictionaries around here are from when I went to school, more or less 30+ years old!
