    Fantastic piece hits the spot
    My director brought this article to me today. It says so eloquently what our department head has tried to express for years: libraries NEED to be involved and integrated across the freshman curriculum. It comes at a time when the university’s whole approach to freshmen is being re-vamped. This article should go a long way to convince the program chairs that yes, we DO need to be involved and yes, information literacy needs to be taught early (and often). My $0.02.

    Students and the Library
    Yes indeed, the need for the teaching and integration of Information Literacy and Technology are important issues even at the High School level. Seniors recently in the Library, were unable to access physical Library Resources and were staring in amazement as I cruised them through a lesson on locating and retrieving information via technology and the existing collection within the Library. As an experienced teacher, yet recent Teacher-Librarian, I have made it my mission to properly prepare our seniors for the world of college and university–or at least give them some tools. Your Freshman initiative is exceedingly important in light of what I see.
