Why you should resist the lure of book clubs

These groups are called book clubs. I am in one. Maybe you are, too. If so, here’s why we’ve both made a terrible mistake.”

    A little remark
    Hello,
    I have read the article by following the link. I found it very interesting. I like pretty much the metaphor of book clubs. “A book club is more or less a place where we gather to talk about an intimate experience” : the experience of reading (alone).
    But, I disagree in some way. From my point of view, book clubs can be like meetings where people talk about their holiday. Reading book can be seen like a travel and when you come back, you want to talk about it. Even if we travel in the same place (same book), many of us can see things differently and some people can be interested by things we haven’t noticed. And when we go to holiday, next summer, we can take benefit from the things we haven’t noticed at the first time.
    To sum up, when you read a book, other people can help you understand or notice some things and by noticing these things, you can understand better the book. Thus, if you read it another time, the experience would be rewarding.
