WWW space needs a card catalog for navigation…

I ran across This Neat Old Thread from the comp.infosystems.www usenet group, from way back in 1994.

The participants debate the merits of creating a card catalog for the web. It starts off like this:

\”I\’ve played with Mosaic enough to realize that it\’s biggest
downfall is NO GENERAL INDEX. Card catalogs are the indexes to
libraries and this is what WWW space needs. envision a system where each server administrator (or a volunteer)
could create one or more \”catalog cards\” describing their server and
then submit these cards to a card approver. \”
