According to this story in The Hindu , it might be caused by an internal rift among the members of the Nobel Committee, and the possibility of honoring the life work of a controversial Turkish author, Orhan Pamuk. Some members of the committee may look askance at an assertion he made in a newspaper interview earlier this year that the Turkish state was guilty of a 20th century genocide against Armenians and Kurds. He faces trial for the comments.
The committee ‘officially denies’ that this is the reason for awarding the literature prize after the other Nobels have been awarded, but the results will be revealed at any rate this Thursday.
