UN at odds over internet’s future

Anonymous Patron writes “BBC NEWS Says A UN group charged with deciding how the net should be run has failed to reach a decision.
The group’s report suggests four possible futures for net governance that range from no change to complete overhaul.”

    Nice thought. But the way it is now, it’s the US government (or at least, a US quango, the ICANN) that’s running the Internet. So, do you want the US feds to run it, or do you want the ITU, which is actually one of the useful, and effective, bits if the UN to do it?

    No. that’s fine. But the USA’s interests are not the same as the rest of the world’s. And don’t forget that the obvious agency to oversee the ICANN within the US federal government is the FCC, which isn’t exactly the paragon that many of the above are.
