I wanted to point out a book that was reviewed in Publisher’s Weekly called, The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality. The review is on a long page of reviews so I used a webpage called Citebite to link to the exact review. (Citebite even highlight the relevant text in yellow) You can see the direct Citebite link here.
As another example of Citebite here is another link that shows the language in the review that I found interesting.
PW is PC
The linked page is a good reminder of how PW reviews end up skewing bookstore offerings to the left. I learned from this page that to get a starred review I need to write a book posing as an atheistic Buddhist Islamic Eco-Therapist. For a positive review, “no evangelical protestants need apply.”
My favorite review is the one for a book touting the moral superiority of Islam in “the fraught half-millennium during which Islam and Christianity uneasily coexisted on the continent just beginning to be known as Europe.”
Uneasily co-existed? Like, if I was the victim of a home invasion, I would be uneasily coexisting with the invaders? (I’d need a few 16th Century Viennese arquebuses and pikes — those put an end to the uneasy coexistence way back when.)
There is an especially good laugh to be had at the quoted description of Al Andalus as a sort of Moorish hippy heaven: “…a religiously tolerant, intellectually sophisticated, socially diverse and economically dynamic culture…,” as compared to the brutish brutes of Middle Ages Western Civ (21st Century Republicans one and all): “religiously intolerant, intellectually impoverished, socially calcified, and economically primitive.”
Re:PW is PC
It’s just all about you, isn’t it?
No one said anything about the Republican Party. Now you’re just fishing.
Shouldn’t you be directing these complaints to PW?
Re:PW is PC
Chuck, “It’s just all about you..,” er, um, isn’t that a straw man TM ?
Biblio-dude/dudette enticed me to read an ultra-positive PW review of a book on atheism by draping it in that French-colored tech-thingy?
So I read the whole thing and made a comment? Fishing? (or even fisking)? Maybe Tomeboying?
