News From IL on a Director who stole $100,000 from a public library. Homer Township’s former library director was sentenced Tuesday to six months in the Will County jail for stealing more than $100,000 from the library district.
Circuit Judge Gerald Kinney could have sent Regetta Meyers to state prison for anywhere from four to 15 years. Instead, she will spend about 90 days in jail and four years on probation.
How unfortunate…
that she did not get more time. I say 320K = about 10 years of librarian salary. Let her do 10 years.
Or let her do what they do to the child support non-payerss: “pay or stay” an hour per dollar. She should work that off in about 36 1/2 years… or she could cough up the cash.
320K because her expenses were tight…oh come on even I had to let the housekeeper go, but with an extra 32K per year I could really live it up.

mdoneil-
You sure seem interested in this story. Do you know all of the details or just what you read? Your sarcastic postings are getting old regarding this case. Do you know Regetta personally? I highly doubt it.
You obviously do not know the regulations and laws that go along with sentencing. You were NOT a part of this case, do NOT know all the details, and are NOT a judge.
Find something better to do with your time at 1:19 in the morning.
Reggie will be paying the money back, will be doing community service, and is known as a thief in the community. She will only do about 3 months in prison.
You seem really hung up about expenses; you seem so opinionated why don’t you get a second job so you can ‘live’ it up. Reggie wasn’t ‘living’ it up. Go back up on your mighty high horse.
Re:How unfortunate…
No, I don’t know the convicted felon personally. Although I fail to see how that would make any difference in my opinion of anyone who steals from the public coffer and violates the trust placed with them.
No, I didn’t read anything but the newspaper articles. I did try to read the Circuit Court record, but that is fee based and at > $200 annually I didn’t subscribe. If you have copies I’d be delighted to read them, perhaps it would change my opinion. No, I don’t know about Illinois sentencing guidelines. I’m not even too well versed on my states sentencing guidelines- not being a convicted felon I have not explored them too much.
I do have a second job, I am a registered nurse. I am a full time librarian but I like the extra money working occasionally as an RN brings in. Of course it would be easier to simply take other people’s money, but that is contrary to my morality.
Thanks for your concern about my circadian rhythm, but I am often up at unusual hours owing to my schedule. Yes, I am opinionated; and yes I do use sarcasm in my postings. Isn’t it fantastic that we live in this wonderful country where we can express our opinions freely. No matter how much we disagree with one another we are all allowed to have our say.
So thank you for your opinion. I certainly hope the librarian in question is able to make the community whole again, and I hope her short term in prision proves purgative for the community as well. I don’t wish her ill; it is simply a matter of justice.
Re:How unfortunate…
Thank you…I appreciate you clearing that up.
