Self-help on the way

Newsday starts its story on the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s 2005 Books for a Better Life awards with these two paragraphs:

Think of all the things we see on the rise these days, starting with stress, job insecurity, obesity, health care costs and the number of baby boomers becoming sexagenarians. Perhaps as a result, anxiety is on the rise, too – and Americans, being who we are, look for help where?

The bookstore, of course, specifically the self-help section – where sales also are on the upswing.

Of course, as we all know, all those stressed-out people looking for help with their lives are coming to the library, too.
