Salinas libraries revival in works

Finally, some Good News out of Salinas. A year after slashing operations of its three libraries, the Salinas City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved an initial plan to revive their operations. The first task will be to hire three librarians and two clerks to increase library hours to 69 hours a week.

With about 18 full-time equivalent positions, the John Steinbeck, El Gabilan and Cesar Chavez libraries are now open a combined 33 hours a week. Before cuts were approved to balance the city’s budget, the libraries were open a total of 96 hours a week.
