    Wow

He died after suffering repeated blows to the head…

Wow. Given what I know about crime and homicide, that really bespeaks of a personal connection and a lot of rage. It takes hard rage, hate, and anger to face your victim, look them in the eye, and then kill them face to face with (what sounds like) a blunt instrument. It’s a completely different thing than shooting them. When you beat someone to death, you can hear them scream. You get their blood on you. You can listen to the sound of the weapon breaking bone and flesh. A murderer doesn’t get that with a firearm. One fairly well placed shot is quick, relatively painless (depending on where the bullet impacts), and the victim may not even have time or the ability to react.

The thing about blunt weapons is that, usually, one shot isn’t enough. And even when it is, if the suspect is enraged, one blow still isn’t enough.

Makes ya wonder, are they looking for a spamming victim or a student?

    the dot’s discussion
Slashdot had this the other day. The ideas thrown around there that it was some sort of mob type hit. With the reasoning that most Russian spammers/phishers/crackers have a connection to the mob.

    Re:Wow
Are you speaking from persoanl experience? I have heard some commentators suggest that spammers should be subject to the death penalty but htis one went a little to far.

Kinda sorta. Before I went into library and info science, I wanted to be a CSI. Keep in mind that this was back before it became fashionable to be a CSI. Then I found out that I have absolutely no aptitude for biology… at all. So that kinda shot that one in the butt. However, I studied a LOT of crime scene photos, crime scene reports, autopsy reports, and the psychology of criminals. So I have a pseudo-background in criminology and CSI, meaning that I know more than the average bear, but I never did anything with it.

Incidentally, the Catherine Willows character on CSI is based on real life Las Vegas CSI Yolanda McCrery. On the show, Catherine is a former exotic dancer. I don’t know if McCrery ever stripped, but believe me, she could have. They got that character pretty spot on in terms of looks.
