Romance Writer Allegedly Subpeonaed for al Queda Research

This is a third-hand story, from Katie “Young Librarian” Dunnabec’s blog, which if true, is mightily disturbing. In the latest issue of Romance Writers Monthly, there’s an interview with an unnamed romance writer who alleges that s/he was observed and subpeoaned after conducting research for his/her latest novel which involved al Queda in the plot. The story is suspect, sort of urban-mythish, given the third-hand nature of the information, but I thought I’d turn it over to you LISNews sleuths and deconstructionists.

    As a follow-up…
    A copy of the article that I read has been made available here. For those who like to make sure the citation is in order, this is from the November 2004 issue of the Romance Writers Report (v.24 n.10 p.40-2). Even if you don’t believe the article, this is the kind of tactics that the Patriot Act makes allowances for. My only political statement: VOTE. That is how we ensure the democracy that we enjoy.
