Jenna Glatzer, author and Celine Dion biographer, has come up with a grassroots approach to selling her latest book, Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer.
Jenna has asked readers to call their local libraries to make sure they’re stocking a copy of her book. For every phone call the readers make, they get an entry into the “‘Call Them All’ Grassroots Contest. The grand prize winner will receive $312.47 worth of writing-related prizes, including hardcover and paperback books, e-books, a CD, a 2-year subscription to a publication for writers, and free advertising.

Why not donate a copy?
Another way of making sure a copy is in the library is to donate it as this group is doing with DVDs of the TV shows created by Joss Whedon
Re:Why not donate a copy?
Donating a book or other item doesn’t guarantee that the library will put it in the collection. We got some pretty wacky stuff from the group that had Ted Williams frozen head. Whoever took it didn’t take a close look at it and added it to the collection. But I pulled one of the magazines off the shelf on a slow night and discovered that all of their publications are pretty much promotional organs for their services. It went bye-bye. We regularly have to call folks up and tell them to come pick up their donations because we already have them, the material is outdated or too beat up, or doesn’t fit with our collection development policy.
