Pigeon lovers and pigeon haters alike are squawking about the new device installed on the roof of the Mary Duncan Public Library in Benson, NC. Head Librarian Linda Hayes said pigeons have been a problem at the library for years. “It’s the mess they make that’s so awful. You could not walk in front of the library for the pigeon poop.” Various methods of minimizing the fallout from the birds have been tried; folks from the Mayor on down are hoping this one will do the trick.

Unfortunately for the Benson Library…
I’ve seen these on buildings around town and they don’t really seem to keep the birds away. Pigeons, (and sparrows and starlings), keep their distance from the owl but they still hang out around it. (The sound it makes is -just barely- audible to humans by the way, and it’s very annoying!)
