conservator writes “For those of you who think the Patriot Act is less about protecting the U.S. from terrorism and more about The Man violating what’s left of our civil liberties, there’s good news: Now you can turn your disgust to a board game the whole family can enjoy!”

Discussing what the PATRIOT Act is about
The “Limited Government/Free Markets” think tank CATO Institute has an article called “Cato vs. DOJ: Round 2” that illustrates some of the problems with the PATRIOT Act.
For a current exploration of whether the USA PATRIOT Acat actually defends against future 9/11s, try taking the PATRIOT Act Challege.

Re:Discussing what the PATRIOT Act is about
No wonder National Review declined to publish the piece. The author “replies to” Barbara Comstock’s earlier response without even quoting what she said. Blah!
Isn’t it wonderful, though? An anti-Patriot Act board game!
The game itself 🙂
Well, since no one’s addressed the actual game yet…
For board game nuts like me, check out the actual site of the game. It looks interesting. Yes, they are making a political statement, but it seems like a well researched and thought out game. The examples used on the site are definitely relevant to the use and (potential) abuse seen in the Act. I wish they had more on rules or game play to make it seem a bit more legit.
It’d make a fun game night at the old library or homestead. Especially when teamed up with the classic Ebola Monkey Hunt.
Re:Discussing what the PATRIOT Act is about
Yes, and it’s fun, too! Educational, as well! Play it and broaden your horizons!
Re:Discussing what the PATRIOT Act is about
Conservator,
The Cato page had a clear link to the Comstock article at http://nationalreview.com/comment/comment-comstock 090303.asp. (Look for “article in response to Lynch.” That seems good enough to find out what she said. The letter itself seems to paraphrase Comstock’s comments, but I’m sure NR (like Nation or other magazines) have published paraphrases before.
If Lynch is putting words into her mouth that weren’t there, let us know what they were. Letting us know about false claims that Lynch is making wouldn’t hurt either.
