NYT Announces 2003 Top Librarians

The New York Times has announced the winners of its 2003 Librarian Awards. Awarded for outstanding public service, this is the first year that the paper has given awards to librarians outside of the New York tri-state area. Lots of familiar names and faces here! Congratulations to all.

    Enormous Impact
    “The terrific response this program has received from practically every state in the nation is evidence of the enormous impact librarians have on library patrons.

    This sentence was kind of a letdown for me. I was expecting it to end with “…on society” or “…in our country” or even “on the the public.”

    Somehow, the phrasing of librarians having impact on library patrons doesn’t have much zing, though obviously the thought is a nice one.

    Yes, I’m sorry–it’s true. And about your bid for inclusion in People’s “Most Beautiful People” issue….well, um….maybe next year.
