MoreGoogle != Google
Just in case it’s not clear (and it’s not clear from the article above), MoreGoogle is
not an offering of Google. Way down at the bottom of the page:
“MoreGoogle is not affiliated with Google Inc. Google is a trademark of Google Inc.”
Re:MoreGoogle != Google
Anybody know if this program is legit? Does it come with any nasty spyware built in?
Re:MoreGoogle != Google
Steven M. Cohen has it running, and though he doesn’t go into much detail, he seems to like it.
I’d say in this casem Buyer Beware, ya just never know.
Re:MoreGoogle != Google
it’s spyware alright… they force their banners, popups, and other shit when you visit other peoples pages… FUCK THEM!
endorsement :p. Luke”
I love the ringing endorsement that popped up on my first visit: “MoreGoogle rocks
Re:MoreGoogle != Google
Did you have to go to grad school to learn words like that? Come on, if you are a librarian use a thesaurus. Anyone can use foul language. A learned person will avoid it yet still express the same sentiment.
word != term
That is inaccurate. To quote Heinlein, “There is power in words — black magic, if you know how to invoke it.” You might want to consider the amusing little game where you take three different words that all express the same idea, but express it in increasing negative connotation. For instance: I am determined, you are stubborn, he is pig-headed. As a writer, words are my tools, and I use the right word for the right job. If the word called for is good, old fashioned Anglo-Saxon Basic, then one should use it. In the case of the message above, the ASB term evokes the writer’s disgust or frustration with spyware in a way that milder terms do not.
Anglo Saxon Basic
I like that! And, I have to out myself as a learned person who uses ASB (aka “swearing like a sailor,”) when warranted. I do try to keep it out of conversation with others who I know will just be flat-out offended, though. Now that I think about it, I must experience a high level of disgust and frustration in my life. Probably better that I spew foul language than internalize it all. Right? My 13 y-o will occassionally let one fly, too, but she knows to only do it at home.
It’s always been a bit of a paradox to me…they’re “only words,” yet they can invoke such strong responses from people. I guess the old saw about sticks-and stones is bull-oney.
Re:MoreGoogle != Google
It is true that MoreGoogle is not Google (as explained on the front page of MoreGoogle).
No information is collected, logged, traced -whatever – at any time. If your browser connects to http://www.moregoogle.com, it does so to access the MoreGoogle JavaScript that enhances Google. Event then, in most cases, nothing is actually downloaded to your PC because usually the web browser keeps a copy of the most recent version of MoreGoogle in its cache.
The advantage of this is that there is only a tiny part of software actually installed on the client PC, and you never run into “re-install-to-get-an-update” problem.
(Compare this to tools like the Alexa Toolbar, where everything you do online is logged for statistical purposes, a number of DLLs is installed, etc)
These questions are actually all answered on the FAQ page at http://www.MoreGoogle.com/faq.html.
In case there are some questions still unanswered, I’ve set up a blog at http://moregoogle.blogspot.com where I welcome questions,feedback and suggestions 🙂

Andreas Pizsa
