Seth Finkelstein writes “Libraries of large Finnish cities
oppose a Minister’s censorware proposal:
“The public library is a sanctuary of the freedom of speech, and it has to allow its customers to have free access to all sites”, says Library Manager Seija Koppa from Vantaa.”
In Helsinki, the public libraries restrain only the use of the RuneScape online game that is popular among young library-users.
The libraries regard the browsing of indecent websites on their premises as a minor problem. “

The interesting thing about this story is that in some places they don’t mind porn on public terminals. In some places they probably don’t mind the online game RuneScape.
The problem always comes up when someone figures it “ought” to be the same everywhere.
Tyranical thought demands everything be available to everyone everywhere. On the other hand metaphorically speaking there is the equally hysterical position that nothing “bad” ought to be available to anyone anywhere.
Mercifully… there is no consensus on these “over the top” positions. However it is noted there is always a taboo…always.
