Laramie County libraries reject filtering

From the Billings-Gazette:

Internet filters will not be installed on computers in Laramie County’s libraries, and the library system will lose $2,000 a year in federal funding as a result.

The library system board voted unanimously against Internet filters Tuesday. Although it will cost the system E-rate Program funding under the Child Internet Protection Act and Neighborhood Child Internet Protection Act, installing and maintaining filters would cost even more.

Board member Brian Kopsa said he had a bigger question in mind than funding. “Where do we begin, and where do we stop?” he asked.
