Lamentable State of Montreal’s Libraries

Here’s a piece from the Montreal Gazette about how and why Montreal has “the worst library system in Canada to this day.” It’s a weird, long-brewing story involving a philanthropic ventriloquist, a censorious bishop, and the refusal of a gift from Andrew Carnegie. As an aside, our very own Kathleen de la Pena McCook is quoted in the story, as an expert on public library history.
