Kansas pulls CDs headed for public libraries

    Perspectives on CD Settlement
    The ‘Kansas’ article gave me a new perspective on what I read in this artcile in Rolling Stone (here is the online version, http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story?id=6302126& rnd=1092243302843&has-player=false)

    What strikes me is that while Kansas complains about the appropriateness of the cd content from a moralview, others quoted in the RS article complained of the intrinsic value of the cds they got, as Craig Buthod, director of the Louisville Free Public Library greives, “This looks like leftovers.”

    On the other hand the artcile points out that some facilities with no current media holoding were glad to have anything at all. Having lived in a number of rural areas I know this is often the case with some samall public facilities.

    What seems somewhat congruent among all perspectives i’ve read so far (moral issues/worth issues/local availability to make things oversimple) is that digital media is desriable by most all. But the cd selections, like the libraries individual missions, needed to match the user/patron need of each facility. Also, I wonder what type of analysis, ie need, situation, user, etc, was done, if any when selction were made.
