‘Lost’ essay by Virginia Woolf to be published

Charles Davis sends “this story from
telegraph.co.uk about a “lost” essay by Virginia Woolf about London life in the 1930s. Woolf wrote six articles for Good Housekeeping between 1931 and 1932, based on her perceptions of her native city. While five of the essays were republished in a 1970 title, The London Scene, the sixth was lost and only recently found in the archives of the University of Sussex. The London Scene, long out of print, will be republished soon, with the inclusion of the lost essay.

    Good Housekeeping
    If all six of the essays had been in Good Housekeeping couldn’t they just find the “lost” article there? There must be some library with a bound run of Good Housekeeping from the 1930’s.

    Portrait of a Londoner
    According to the article the lost essay was called, “Portrait of a Londoner” and was published in Good Housekeeping in 1931 or 1932. I would be curious to see how fast the LISNEWS community could come up with a copy of the “lost” article. If your library has Good Housekeeping from the 30’s take a look and see if you have the “Lost” article.
