Indiana School officials OK controversial books

Indianapolis Star reports the Peru School Board has allowed third- and fourth-graders to keep reading a pair of books that some members and residents said had language and sexual references unsuitable for that age level.

The School Board upheld the decision of a committee to keep the books, “Catherine, Called Birdy” and “The Midwife’s Apprentice,” both about the challenges two English girls face while growing up in medieval times.
