Homeless Man’s Library Card Cancelled, Changed to Guest

Ron Murphy, who resides at a homeless shelter in Chattanooga (TN) was upset when his library card was canceled after it was noted that his address was the community kitchen. Assistant Director of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library, Barry Bradford, apologized and said that staff should have offered the man a guest card, which allows use of the library and internet access, but not check-out privileges. Full access is granted to people who live in a 50 mile radius of the library and can document three months residence at the same address. Murphy was pleased with his guest status and said, “I’m just trying to improve my life.” More from the Review Appeal.
