Anonymous Patron writes “Democrat & Chronicle: Webster Central School District officials have removed a gay-themed book from a summer reading list for high school students after receiving complaints from parents.
The book, Rainbow Boys, by Alex Sanchez, which was released in 2001, is about gay teen life. It won the International Reading Association’s 2003 Young Adults’ Choice award, and the American Library Association selected it as a Best Book for Young Adults.”
what possible reasons?
As in my diary on the same topic, I can’t help wonder what the objection to the book is.
From TFA
“I read it and I have some questions about it, as well,” Agostinelli said.
The gay theme is not one of her concerns, but Agostinelli declined to say what is.
“I’m not going to get into this,” she said.
Is this woman freaking mental? She wants the book pulled from the shelves but she won’t say why? The gay theme isn’t a problem, so what is it? She didn’t like the use of punctuation? Perhaps the font offended her? Maybe she just doesn’t like the writer?
I guess we won’t know because she’s “not going to get into this.”
I wish that logic worked in other places…
“Hey boss! I need a new computer for my desk! One of those dual core jobbies with a hellaciously fast video card and tons of RAM!”
“The hell? What do you need a system like that for?”
“Look, boss, I’m not going to get into this.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll put the order in.”
I have not read the book,
but the title sure is gay.
Yesterday, when I was walking home, I saw some teen couple making out. Man, seeing that really gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Misleading Headline
The LISNews article headline says:
Gay-Themed Book Pulled Off NY StateReading List
I was really alarmed until I read the article. A school district has removed this book from a reading list. From the headline, I thought the NY State reading list – the whole state – was involved. Whew.
Webster School District pulls Gay-themed book ,sex, or sexual orientation. Who are the schools social, political and financial backers? Perhaps they should be sent letters of protest as well as the school. My point is, conservatives and religious rights people are highly active. Whereas, many liberal people in our society are satisfied with waiting for the next party or lunch break to complain to a fellow liberal. We need to act more against censorship and bigotry. Lets get organized!!
It’s not enough to shake our heads or point fingers and yell censorship. thats the typical liberal reaction. We all need to call up the school district and register our complaints. Is their school library part of an interlibrary loan agreement? Perhaps we should discontinue interlibrary loan services to libraries that pull books due to race
