Friday Updates: What You Missed In The Past Week

Years ago Steven M. Cohen used to write weekly “Friday Updates” where he’d summarize what happened around LISNews for the week. His last update was over 5 years ago, and it’s something I still miss. I’m going to attempt to do a quick week-in-review each Friday, and depending on how popular it is, and how much time I have, I’ll either let it die again, or keep it going for as long as possible. So here’s just a few things I found interesting that you might have missed around LISNews in the last week (er so):

The most exciting development last week was certainly the return of TWiL, Bentley’s look around the biblioblogosphere. I don’t know how she does it, but I’m glad she’s back. If you want to see what the bloggers are up to, be sure to watch for TWiL every Monday.

I bet it has been years since Ice-T felt like he was a bad-ass pimp again. Spending all his time on the set of Law and Order can’t be all that exciting. This week He was being treated like a gansta’ again. Plans by the Omaha Public Library to have the “cop killa” speak at a branch opening touched off a heated discussion on whether or not he was a good choice. It’s been well over a decade since I’ve been to an Ice-T/Body Count show, but I seem to remember more than a few F-Bombs being dropped. It’s probably safe to say he’ll clean up the act a bit for a library opening. (Let’s just hope he doesn’t bust out his classic “Girls L.G.B.N.A.F.”) I can’t be the only one around here to see more than 2 or three Ice-T shows, can I?

Though it didn’t generate much in the way of comments, This One on a Zits Comic seemed to generate the most hits. Leave it to The Laughing Librarian to find the funny stuff. Second on the hits-list was This One on an librarian in Seattle who says she has been discriminated against, failing to receive a promotion within the system. She is suing the city of Seattle for failure to promote and pain and suffering allegedly inflicted by a fellow employee.

French students destroy rare books and artifacts ” set off more than a few comments, as did Teen gets two years, sex offender therapy in librrary assault. Fang-Face and mdoneil bickering just never gets old does it?

There was some great stuff in the Journals last week as well. ShockM and Durst are both reporting from CIL. It seems like every librarian with a blog is there this week.

I’ve been enjoying the mysterious Search Engines dude who’s been posting quite a bit about geeky stuff.

It must be an election year because the journals are really starting to get political. PerterF, cstout, Jessica_G, kmccook and birdie where just some of the most political.

If you haven’t been reading slashgirl’s journal have a look today. I really enjoy her tails of her PHP and life in school library.

I’d love to be able to report some stats & numbers but I have yet to rewrite my old PHP based code from the old server. I’ll get to it at some point soon which should make this a bit more interesting.
