First Lady Hosts Southern Writers

After cancelling last year’s forum on poetry due to planned protests by poets against the war in Iraq, Laura Bush once again hosted a literary symposium in the East Room of the White House ( CNN story here)

This year’s meeting honored southern authors such as Truman Capote, Eudora Welty and Flannery O’Connor. The event came off without a peep this year; author Tom Wolfe commented that he had forgotten that last year’s forum had even been cancelled.
