Citing Hate-Speech, Prison Removes Scriptures

Seldom does the practice of law appeal to me, and I postponed sitting the NYS bar the 25th of last month as I had meetings, but this is one of the few time I wish I were admitted to the Federal Bar. (Although I think I had a quesadilla earlier today that could have gained admission.)

If one were to be an angry terrorist would not federal prison be the most appropriate place to be such? Would the panoply of religious texts previously available not sway readers from radicalism but toward a more observant belief?

I don’t pretend to be anything but an observant Roman Catholic yet I have friends (and have had friends for decades) who are observant Jews (friends and relatives – I doubt you know any other Jews named O’Neil), Moslems, Baptists, Episcopalians, Baha’i, Atheists, Agnostics, No-Godists even more vehement than Atheists, and yes as hard as it may be to believe Lutherans. I don’t think any of my friends were they incarcerated in a Federal Prison would turn into a terrorist, nor do I pretend to think than anyone who identifies themselves as a terrorist would change because of reading The Good News Bible from the prison library. I can pray that they do, but I can’t assume they will.

That said I don’t think that the reading material in a prison will change a person into a terrorist, or a bad prisoner, or a Republican or a Mason, or Xod forbid a Democrat. I think the environment is much more influential in prison than any reading matter they might find. .

While I have worked in a local jail as a nurse, I have never been in a prison (well a US prison -that brief time in Mombasa is not officially recorded) but I assume the conditions are somewhat similar except that the pecking order is less frequently altered.

I’d rather the prisoners be able to read Playboy Letters, Mein Kampf, Blue Boy, and Highlights for Children, or anything else they may desire; rather than penning pro se actions.

Years ago I had a stick accidentally shoved into my hand and I went to the ER at Maimonides Hospital in NYC and I am fully cured, so he is a good guy in my book.
