A Piece From India Says In the age of internet, books would continue to dominate the minds of readers for taking society forward. This from West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said today.
Speaking at the inauguration of 30th Kolkata Book Fair here, Bhattacharjee said the importance of books would not be undermined, adding that the print media was one of the important pillars of culture.
Books vs computers
As big a computer geek I am, I still prefer books to reading information off a screen, and with good reason.
A website I came across a few days ago explained his rational for his design. He used a solid black background with white lettering set around 14 point or so. Why? Because, in his words, staring at a computer monitor is the same as staring at a light bulb. And if you think about it, that makes a lot of sense. For the most part, webpages still use the traditional black on white approach which is bright, and glaring, and amounts to trying to read words printed on a light bulb.
No wonder people get headaches after staring at monitors for too long.
I mean, think about it. Which is easier on your eyes? The black on grey this site uses for its comment boxes or the black on white it uses for pretty much everything else?
