Berkeley City Council takes stand against PATRIOT Act

    Nuclear free too
    If I recall they will not allow any nuclear weapons or nuclear power plants in their city either.

    I guess nuclear medicine departments are OK though. Odd since more people are exposed to ionizing radiation through medical uses than any other way.

    I’m sure the FBI very concerned. 🙂

    Hubris: excessive self confidence.The belief that one is immune.

    Secret trials, secret investigations, secret incarcerations? That’s like Baghdad when Saddam was in power. Germany under Hitler and the old Soviet Union.

    I’m not one to raise the spectre of Hitler every time some authoritarian says or does something I don’t like. But, in this case, it fits.

    What is mind boggling to watch, is the number of ordinary Americans who are willing to dispose of the fundamental pillars of American democracy, while mouthing gibberish about America the free.

    They seem to believe that they are the natural good guys. Of course, these laws are for getting the bad guys. Or anyone who disagrees with the ‘good guys’.

    In a few months, there will likely be a regime change in America. The Patriot Act will then be in the hands of new people with different ideas about what’s a good American and what is not.

    Stop, for an instant, and think about that. None of us really knows what the future holds. A political weapon is being unleashed than no one can really control.

    You have no idea who or what will hold that weapon in twenty years. Todays proponents may well find themselves being tomorrows victims.

    There are no checks and balances applied to this law. You will have no recourse but to shut up and take it. Even talking about it could be deemed illegal, depending on circumstances.

    Hubris-dangerous stuff.
