FOURTEEN unpublished love letters from Edward VIII to Wallis Simpson written before his abdication which were bought by an anonymous bidder for €15,000 (£10,000).

The collection, which included photographs, clothing, cameras and the Duke’s pipes and golf clubs, had been given to the servants by the Duchess before her death in 1986. In one love letter Edward wrote to Mrs Simpson after a tiff: ‘You can’t throw our future and divine happiness away with one of your “impulsive gestures”. It’s too terrifying and far too serious for that.’
