Autographed Rand book could be worth $5,000 for Batavia’s library

Anonymous Patron writes Daily Herald in Suburban Chicago Jo Ann Smith, a volunteer with the Friends of the Batavia Public Library, discovered quite a gem in a box of donations: a first-edition, first printing, signed copy of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged.”

After researching the book, she about “dropped dead” at its worth.

“I think there were 13 copies of it available,” Smith said. “The least expensive was $1,500, and the most expensive was $30,000, which was inscribed to the mother and father of her lover … We’re not sure what we’ll get, but it could go as high as $5,000.””
