Author S. E. Hinton Writes A New Novel–For Adults

Long celebrated as the author of the ultimate middle school novel “The Outsiders”, author S. E. Hinton (who wrote the book 40 years ago at the age of 15) is about to release a new novel.

Although she has written several books in the interim, this is her first novel in 15 years, and it is quite different from her other work for young adults. New York Press reporter Brian Heater reports here on “Hawkes Harbor”, to be published this November by Tor Books.

Fans of Hinton’s early work should no doubt find something familiar in the new book’s protagonist, Jamie Sommers, a street- tough orphan who, Hinton concedes, does bear some resemblance to past characters.

But there are differences too, including several sex scenes involving three participants, so “Hawkes Harbor” is not considered likely to gain the same PTA support that has been awarded to “The Outsiders.”
