The case of Allen Weinstein’s nomination continues, as this MassLive.com article makes clear:

“Weinstein’s nomination, which requires confirmation by the full Senate, still sits in the Government Affairs Committee. He is the founder of the Center for Democracy and a senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based International Foundation for Election Systems.

In July, he told the committee that the public should have as much access to government archives as possible; that as a private citizen he opposes the 2003 executive order; and that as the nation’s archivist he would work to open as many government documents as possible.

He also told the committee he had absolutely no conversations with the Bush White House about what decisions he would make about opening records of the first Bush administration.

“Neither the very prestigious job of archivist of the United States or any other government position is worth my integrity or anything like that,” Weinstein said. ”
