Great Western Dragon writes “Ran across this last night. Unlike most people who post a listing of books they’ve read, this one is a book list of unread books. Not only that, the writer goes out of his way to explain why the tomes remain unopened. There are always books that we never get around to reading, so this is worth a chuckle.”

True Confessions
Moby Dick. The castor oil of books. I know it’s supposed to be good for me, but please don’t make me….
Dude Where’s My Country. I just couldn’t. MM started rubbing me the wrong way awhile ago. I know George Bush is evil. Sheesh.
Any Nancy Drew titles. I turned my nose up at the mystery genre at an early age (Tony Hillerman being the sole exception). I did however, get a copy of the lesbian pulp parody “Nancy Clue and the Case of the Not-so-Nice-Nurse” for Christmas. My husband is very thoughtful.
The Ring Trilogy. Not even in movie form. Wanna make something of it?
Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity. Even though I am acknowledged for research assistance. Sorry, D.

Neat
I read perhaps too much to have a list of books that I would deliberately attempt to avoid. That’s okay, though. For me, I would have to say Blinded by the Right by David Brock was a book in 2003 that I regret reading. Not too close to having a list of books that I am deliberately avoiding, but perhaps I may come up with such when 2004 closes.

Game Theory Evolving

or Evolving Game Theory? What was the title? That sounds about as interesting as the EULA agreements that come in software… And this from an avid reader of tech manuals.

Never could make it through War and Peace, and I love Russian novels. Just didn’t have the gumption. Most recently I took Rebel Code out of the library. Hearing the author wax poetic on the beauties of open source, (as much as I love open source) got real old after about sixty pages.

Tried reading Chang Rae-Lee’s Native Speaker. Guess I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I got to page three and thought, “I would have left this pretentious twit too.” I didn’t care enough to watch the character’s (hopeful) growth.

Unread books
On my Dec. 31 blog I listed the books I had made a note to read during 2003, but didn’t. This list doesn’t include the titles I actually checked out, but never opened:

“Doing our own thing” by John McWhorter;
“An unfinished life” by Robert Dallek;
“Escape from slavery” by Francis Bok;
“Storyteller’s Daughter” by Saira Shah;
“The mind and the brain” by Begley and Schwartz;
“The retirement savings time bomb” by Ed Slott;
“Beyond the river” by Ann Hagedorn

I have since read Storyteller’s Daughter, and highly recommend it for its excellent writing and poignant stories about Afghanistan.
