Librarian contributes to future of Afghan women

Blackanthem Military News: As the librarian for the newly created library at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan, Nahid is in control of this world.

Outside the library’s walls, however, is a world controlled by men. Women are seen as insignificant and, in more traditional families, are even made to hide their faces from public scrutiny.

The academy itself, where she works, is a prime example. It is an all-male military school where young men from across Afghanistan learn the skills necessary to become officers in the Afghan National Army. Nahid is the only female employed as a member of the academy’s staff.
