The Register reports.
I tried a couple myself and Irving.Callahan is not allowed, nor is 8675309QIrvingCallahan, but oddly 8675309QIrvingCalahan (one l) is.
IrvingJesusJones2006 is available, God8675309 works fine too.
They’ll drop a dime on ya in China and they apparently don’t want to offend the Muslims. Yahoo!”
Update: 02/23 17:48 GMT by B :Just got an interesting email:
“Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you that the news item regarding Allah names on Yahoo is not true. As you can see, I just signed up with a name containing Allah. No problem at all.“
This came from an @yahoo.com email address with the word Allah in the account name. Did Yahoo! change the policy?
Update: 02/23 22:11 GMT by B :JET points out they have changed their policy.
One problem
The problem with this is that, in doing so, they limit the names that Muslims can use. For example, someone whose name is nasrallah (the help of God) will be banned. Likewise, clever nicknames like “Allahz1” or “Live4Allah” are banned. Not to mention that one of the most common names “Abdallah” (which can be spelled Abdullah), would be banned for anyone with that spelling in their name.
In this Muslim’s opinion, Yahoo! got it wrong this time.
Re:One problem
My friend Hass laughed so hard when I told him about it papaya juice sprayed from his nose. He notes his middle name is Mir Mohammed and he had no trouble using that.
Then we discussed how upset Dirty Harry Callahan would be. My Islamic friends wish people would just treat them like everyone else and not as nutjobs or overly sensitive nutjobs.
I of course showed my respect for his beliefs by making him buy lunch – after all it was his turn.
Not sure…
I just tried to sign up [email protected] and [email protected] and they were not available.
I don’t think those are already taken, perhaps they changed the policy recently to exclude ‘allah’.
I would assume they remove this restriction because it is a bit silly.

A policy change was made Wednesdayb locked.ap/
http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/internet/02/23/name.
From the article “Yahoo Inc. said Wednesday it has changed policy to allow usage of the word. In a written statement, the company defended the previous policy as an attempt to protect users from hateful speech.”
