Work Like a Patron Week

DLK: Here’s a thought – maybe we should create a “Work Like a Patron” week, where we only use the library like our customers do – use your library’s wifi (bonus points for using a Public PC), search using the patron version of your catalog, maybe even sit at those lovely desks in the library. Or hang out in a cafe, accessing all work- and library-related stuff from outside of the building. Use the front door, and see the library through your patrons’ eyes.

    It’s funny… us low-level
    It’s funny… us low-level workers often feel like we’ve lost the *privileges* that come with being a patron.

    Also, is commenting on David’s blog limited to select users or something? Couldn’t for the life of me find a link or text entry area.

    Wonderful idea!!
    I am currently working on my Masters in Library Science through LSU in Baton Rouge, and working through reference questions has shown me that we need to “back up and look at it through our client’s eyes”, remembering that we are a profession of SERVICE, and our ultimate goal is to get THE RIGHT BOOKS into our client’s hands. Only then have we done a good job. Being friendly, welcoming, and extending an invitation to come back if more information is needed will go a long way with our clients 🙂
