Wee-hour musings paying off for author

Martin writes “This article describes how a young man spent years writing novels while working the graveyard shift at a hotel. His latest work is a children’s fantasy series about a boy named Alcatraz. The stories resulted from a line that just popped into his mind one day. “And that line was: “So there I was, tied to an altar made from outdated encyclopedias about to be sacrificed to the dark powers by a cult of evil librarians,” he said. The series tells the adventures of a boy who discovers he’s part of a secret group of freedom fighters who battle librarians, an evil cult that controls the world by restricting information.”

    Evil Eva

    My arch-nemesis in junior high was our school librarian, who we all called “Evil Eva.” And I still grew up to be a librarian. No, really, this wasn’t fiction, the woman was truly e-vil. Anyone who uses the term “composition paper” has got some Satan in her.

    Good for the author. I wish he had chosen a more evil profession, but hey, when you think about it, the restriction of information is probably one of the worst things someone (anyone) can inflict on a population. People don’t think about it much. Of course, most librarians are giving it away… free… But I met my share of evil librarians in grad school. 😉

    Also, it’s interesting about the line that popped into his head… That’s how my first book that I let live to see the light of day came. I had a line, the first line, pop into my head and it rattled there for a year till I couldn’t deny it anymore.

    Of course, making a living off writing is a crapshoot at best. Perhaps we can recruit this young author, now that he knows our evil secret….

    As far as controlling the world, I’d say the same thing as I’d say about THE PROTOCOLS OF THE ELDERS OF ZION–if I did secretly control the world, I’d probably pay myself more money.
