University of Minnesota replies to critics of sexuality book

Bob Cox sent over This One that says The University of Minnesota sent a letter to several legislators this week emphasizing the independence of the University Press, which has printed \”Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children from Sex.\”

University general counsel Mark Rotenberg\’s letter said, \”the book challenges conventional wisdom, as well as traditional legal and moral norms that we, and many others hold dear.\” However, he continued, \”as a matter of sound policy, the university maintains a press that is independent\” from the university\’s senior management, which includes President Mark Yudof.

Since the book\’s first shipping, many legislators, including Rep. Tim Pawlenty, majority leader of the House, have questioned why the university would release the book, and asked that it stop any future printings.
