U.N. urges libraries be built in Africa
Normally, I’d jump all over this and ask where can I send money and or books, but right now, we’re having trouble keeping libraries open in Oregon. Because the federal government reneged on it’s promise to make “payments to the states” where the federal government owns very significant amounts of land (over 50% of Oregon) our counties are shutting down libraries, laying off parole officers and sheriff deputies, curtailing road repairs and snow removal, and at least one county is planning on declaring bankruptcy, something I didn’t know a county could do, but evidently they can.
All of our money is going down a “black hole” called Iraq. While we are giving money to repair and restock the library in Bagdad, we are closing libraries in the U.S. If we can’t afford to keep libraries open in this country, how can we fund third world libraries?
What the heck, where can I send books and/or money.
