Not reporting crimes?
What kind of idiots don’t report crimes. Oh Librarians.
When I was a nurse I quickly learned everyone needs boundries set, even children and the mentally ill. If a crime is committed call the cops and let them sort it out. The Courts do take mental illness into account, and if they are truly incapable of forming rational thought then they get the treatment they need. However throw stuff at me and you go to jail.
The community needs to take ownership of the problem, what politically correct garbage. The community took ownership of the jails put them to use.

I’m afraid this kind of thing is endemic in librarians. “Oh no, that’s ok. I don’t want to confront anyone. I’ll just stay here in this corner and eat wet cigarette butts.”
It’s the reason we’re underpaid (one of them) and it’s the reason we don’t get the respect we deserve (one of them.
I admit that I get nervous and anxious if I have to confront a patron about something like this. I’d be scared if it were a group of young males. You’d be a fool not to be.
But this is my house. Mine. I ruuuuuuuuuuuun this, as the man says. We have kids in here studying, oldsters reading newspapers, people doing e-mail, folks trying to learn stuff. I will not let anyone disrupt our business or intimidate anyone.
One warning, than the cops. Have them on speed dial. Take prisoners. Get mad. Get even.
Toss the yobs, keep the computers.
