Michael Lamb, the operations manager for Powell’s Books in Portland, Ore., is working as a “literary adviser” to a Saudi Arabian sheik who is building a library in his palace. Forbes Says Between its store and Web site, Powell’s sells about 4 million books a year. But Lamb spends about a third of his time designing private libraries for the über-rich literati. Corporate and scholarly libraries also place plenty of orders in his office.
Most business clients want reference libraries full of the latest technical books, but there are exceptions that allow Lamb to have a little more fun. McMenamins, the growing northwest hospitality company that operates a chain of bars and hotels, purchases books by the foot to stock the shelves of their pubs.
“books by the foot” There’s a joke there someplace.
Working for a Saudi Sheik?
I would never consider working for someone who had a part in the dehuminization of women so disgusting international rights groups have condemned them.
Why do these scumbags need books? They are so closed minded the encourage honour killings.
Re:Working for a Saudi Sheik?
So instead of your little third grade rant about Saudi Sheiks. Why don’t you provide some information to back up what you say and cite some sources.
My current take on what you are saying is that ALL Saudi Sheiks are bad.Is that the case? Is it not possible that there are some progressive Saudi Sheiks?
Re:Working for a Saudi Sheik?
Now you’re defending misogynists? Librarians (I assume you’re one) are so progressive and open-minded, yea!
Oh and considering the meaning of the term sheik is a leader -either religious or civil and both the religion and civil government (which are virtually indistinguishable) and that Shari’a law is both the religious and civil law I don’t see a lot of progresive sheiks popping up.
Let me know when women can vote, heck let me know when they can drive cars and I’ll revisit my opinion. Until then I’ll be laughing at the concept of progressive Saudi sheiks.
