Two Students Charged In School Library Bombing

The Curmudgeony Librarian writes “Two Students from Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Oregon were charged in the school library arson bombing which occurred on November 9th. The fire damage was estimated at several thousand dollars and included damage to books, carpet, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles and furniture. The fire was confined to the library with no damage to the rest of the school.

Kevin Michael Jarvis and Daniel John Seger were arraigned on Nov. 11th, and each pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree arson.
The device apparently went off unexpectedly as it was being planted, according to police Sgt. Dan Gill. “It exploded prematurely,” Gill said. “Some of [the alleged bomber’s] clothes had some singeing on it.” The pair were arrested after the bombing. Their joint trial is set for Jan. 5.”
