A local businessman has made good on his promise to donate a $60,000 geothermal heating system for the new branch library.
Late last week, Trinidad resident John Hedrick — a plumbing and heating contractor and owner of The Washery — began digging trenches and installing pipes that will heat the yet-to-be built library from the Earth’s natural heat. The donation is in honor of Hedrick’s mother, Evelyn Brown Hedrick, 94, a longtime librarian with Los Angeles City Schools.
In exchange, according to Trinidad Library fundraising committee member Roland Johnson, Hedrick asked that some public recognition be made of his mother in the new 2,100-square-foot building.
Excellent
It is nice to see a community supporting it’s library. If this guy were in my area he would be my contractor for plumbing and heating work.
I’ve always thought that geothermal heating and cooling was a wonderful idea. There is a fairly high inital investment, but in the long term you save money, and if one is interested in that sort of thing you save energy too.
This is a win for everyone involved.
