To the Bookcave, Robin!

Check out reading nooks built into bookcases, suitable for children or even pets. Perhaps not practical for all but the most extravagant library budgets, but a good idea if you can persuade a skilled craftsperson to build it! Thanks to children’s librarian fusenumber8 for highlighting this nifty piece of furniture art.

    Prison
    The prison industries in Florida made some great CD shelves for us (well the PL I worked for last year.) They can only do work for certain customers – government and non-profits mostly. However they have great craftsmanship and the price was much less than a stock item from a vendor catalog.

    The best part is we got exactly what we wanted, the size we wanted to fit in an odd space and the correct depth for our CDs (or Videos or something like that).

    Google up your state’s prison industries. I also recall Iowa will ship to libraries in other states and we contacted them for some pencil cup/ paper holder thingies that were. as they say in Iowa. wicked cheap.
