John Duncan writes spotted A Toronto Star Column that says it’s time for the Wild West we once proudly called the Internet to grow up.
I can’t quite figure out his point, but he says the pursuit of order and safety on the Internet is why Canada is considering anti-spam legislation and why California just introduced one of the toughest can-spam laws in the world.
It’s why dozens of privacy commissioners from around the world met in Sydney, Australia, earlier this month and unanimously condemned the use of spyware.
Ramble
This is all a bunch of rambling blather. What does he mean the Wild West Web? He yammers on about the dangers of the internet, about places the roaches and scum accumulate, but how is this any different then the physical world? I drive downtown and see plenty of dives, adult books stores an men’s clubs. There are plenty of pedophiles at malls. Getting all wound up about the Internet and it’s “dangers” just comes across as alarmist.
Lock down spam, teach you kids how to behave in a chat room, and think before you let anyone install anything on your harddrive. How hard is that?
