The last story of 2008 on First Lady Laura Bush.
From The New Yorker: “According to Mrs. Bush’s spokeswoman, Sally McDonough, “She’s going to write a book about the people she met and her life in the White House. It’s not going to be an ‘I grew up in Midland’ type of book.”
The reception to Mrs. Bush’s pitch has been mixed so far. “She was not forthcoming about anything that I would consider controversial,” the [unnamed] publisher who met with her said. “We questioned her rigorously, but it was one-word answers. I considered it the worst, or the most frustrating, meeting of its sort that I’ve ever had.” He added, “But she really couldn’t have been nicer.”
“I chose not to meet with her,” a publisher at another [unnamed] company said. “I got the impression that everyone was totally underwhelmed by her. That’s why there’s so little buzz.”
Mrs Bush writes a Book
Um is it by any chance a parody of “Goodnight Moon”?
Yes…she seems “nice” and mute…not to mention ineffective (in comparison to other “First Ladies”). What in the world would she have to write about and why would anyone be interested in reading it if she did?

She’s going to write..
It says in the article above “She’s going to write a book about the people she met and her life in the White House. It’s not going to be an ‘I grew up in Midland’ type of book.”
I will read it. My political leanings notwithstanding it is an historical account of the administration from the perspective of the first lady. Many first ladies have done the same.
Hilary Clinton
Barbara Bush
Nancy Reagan
Rosalynn Carter
Betty Ford
I’m sure you get the picture.
Just because it is not your cup of tea does not mean others would not like to read it.
Does your prayer for all to whom we are interrelated not include those who do not share your opinions? Is it not important to understand those with whom we differ; would reading their work not be a means to that end?

I didn’t think that the OP was saying just because they didn’t like it it shouldn’t exist. Rather that if it was going to be more ‘interesting’ to a wider audience it’d sell more.
Of course any memoir from someone in such a position in any country would be interesting there is the difference between a fairly simple bit about famous people she’s met and the more in depth behind the scenes stories that we don’t know, the gossip, the things about these big names that show them to be as normal as any of the rest of us.
If there is no real depth (or yes anything new, scandalous or otherwise) then theres only going to be a small market for the book. Pack it full of the interesting stuff and it’ll have a much bigger audience. But it seems that this is not what she is doing which is fine, but won’t make her as much money.
