Here’s an odd one. According to USA Today, a library in Sweden is loaning people. That’s right! Not materials to people, but people to people. From the article:
“This weekend, nine people, including a homosexual, an imam, a journalist, a Muslim woman and a gypsy, will be available at the Malmoe Library for members of the public to “borrow” for a 45 minute conversation in the library’s outdoor cafe.”
Heterosexuals available?
I just think it’s strange to state your sexual preference…
I mean, what would people think if someone said “heterosexual available for conversation”?
I guess that’s not as interesting as conversing with homosexuals…
WTF?
No Librarians? 🙂
Why no librarians? Probably because we’d be too quiet
In their own words…
A few more details from the library’s own announcement on their site (translation thanks to a friend):
Great idea
I think its a wonderful idea, why not find out about other people and other ways of living/other professions/other religions/other generations/etc. It takes an open-minded and advanced civilization (like Sweden)to see the value in these sort of exchanges.
Re:In their own words…
“a dane, an animal rights activist, a homosexual, an imam, a journalist, a muslim woman, a traveller, a romanian woman, and a blind person.”
How many people is that? Perhaps they have a blind, homosexual, felmale muslim Dane who is a journalist.
Re:In their own words…
I count nine, which is what the article said.
Read the article…
The whole point is to provide people with an opportunity to converse with people they might not have been exposed to before.
Everyone knows heterosexuals. Not everyone knows homosexuals. Just like not everyone in Sweden is familiar with Islam, but pretty much everyone would be familiar with Christianity. And like lots of people would never have spoken to a traveller (“gypsy”) or an immigrant.
Re:Read the article…
>>>Everyone knows heterosexuals.
You don’t know jack about heterosexuals.
For instance, both heterosexuals and homosexuals enjoy anal sex.
A conversation and comparison of givers and recievers is in order.
Some heterosexual men enjoy having their prostate stimulated.
Christianity is a very, very deep topic as well.
You don’t know everything.
And yes, I did RTFA asshole.
