Sweden’s Larsson first to sell one million Kindle books

Amazon said its Kindle store has sold over one million digital copies of the books in Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy: “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”

    I looked up the number of pages in each book.
    Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is 600
    Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest is 576
    Girl Who Played With Fire is 630

    So if we use the lowest number of pages (576) and multiple that by one million we have 576 million pages. That is a lot of paper.

    Running some rough numbers it would take 6000 cords of wood to make the paper for these books. A cord of wood is approximately 8 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and 4 feet high. If you stacked all the cords on each other you would have a pile of wood 24000 feet high. That is a stack of wood 4.5 miles high.

    But
    What if those people had already bought the books as well? That’s still a lot of paper used.
    It’s only if a book is only available in an electronic medium you can say it’s being more environmentally conscious 😉
